Chemical leak in pharmacy closes town centre road

Emergency services called out to reports of a chemical leak in a shop said no leak was present, but a number of bottles were removed for disposal.

Fire crews were called to the basement of a pharmacy in Market Hill, Framlingham, Suffolk, with the road closed off at about 09:30 GMT as firefighters assessed the situation.

Following an investigation, it was determined no spillage had occurred, but a worker complained of feeling unwell after entering a cellar containing a number of bottles.

As a precaution, the pharmacy was evacuated, and a cordon was set up before crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the cellar to carry out checks using a gas monitor.

No leaks were identified and the scene was declared safe.

The shop worker was taken by ambulance to hospital for precautionary checks, along with another member of staff who also complained of feeling unwell.

The investigation was closed at 13:50 GMT, the fire service said.
