Lane closure warning as relief road work continues

Motorists have been advised to expect disruption as work to complete a long-awaited relief road continues.

Work on the final section of the Sandy Lane road, near Northampton, started last month following final agreements between West Northamptonshire Council and Kier Transportation.

The council said lane closures will be in place on the A4500 between the Sandy Lane roundabout and Upton Valley Way North until 4 April to facilitate the full completion of the "crucial" project "later this spring".

The existing road - nicknamed "the road to nowhere" by locals - has been closed for more than a year, causing frustration for residents.

Construction initially began over 15 years ago before being halted, but resumed last year with part of the existing Sandy Lane between Kislingbury and Duston closing while work took place.

The council said it understood the A4500 lane closures would cause some "temporary delays to motorists" and issued its thanks to "people for their patience over the coming weeks".
