Teenager killed after jet ski crashes into pier

An 18-year-old man has died after a jet ski crashed into a pier in Shetland.

A 17-year-old boy was also taken to hospital for treatment following the incident, which happened at about 16:00 at Gremista marina, Lerwick.

Police Scotland said the teenager, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene, near the Shetland Catch fish factory.

A force spokesperson said: "Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."

No details have been released about the condition of the boy, who was also travelling on the jet ski.

The RNLI Lerwick lifeboat, a coastguard rescue helicopter and emergency crews responded to the incident.
