A man has been found dead on Princes Street in Edinburgh.

Police Scotland said the alarm was raised at about 06:00 but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A force spokesperson said the death was being treated as unexplained and inquiries were ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

A tent has been erected around the body and Princes Street is closed to traffic as a result of the incident.

Trams are only running between the West End and the airport and buses are being diverted up towards George Street and Queen Street.
