'Unacceptable' development of 79 homes approved

Plans for 79 homes to be built in Newbury have been approved despite dozens of objections from the public.
West Berkshire Council has given the go ahead to replace the former Jewson's site in Pound Street with a new housing development.
The existing buildings on the site will be demolished to make way for a mixture of private, shared ownership and affordable homes.
Objections to the scheme included feedback from residents saying the plans were "a significant and unacceptable overdevelopment".
"The car parking is still an issue and will undoubtedly spill over into already congested nearby roads," said one of the objectors Malcolm Thomas.
"As we are in a conservation area the plans aren't appropriate nor sympathetic to the status of this space."
West Berkshire Council has been approached for comment.
