A review is under way to determine the best aircraft to service an inter-island route between Guernsey and Alderney, a flight operator says.

Guernsey airline Aurigny said it was looking into a range of practical options due to the escalating costs and no improvement to Alderney's runway.

Chief operations officer Philip Smallwood said, while the airline was actively exploring options, no decisions had been made at this stage.

He said the current service used a Dornier aircraft and the company said it was evaluating several aircraft of a similar type, size and capability.

He said: "This is a lifeline route we are proud to operate.

"Our priority is delivering a high-quality dependable service to our customers across Guernsey, Alderney and the UK – this commitment will remain unchanged, regardless of the aircraft type we operate."

He said the airline would ensure all stakeholders – including employees, customers, and the Alderney community – would be kept fully informed as soon as a decision was reached.
