Four people were taken to hospital after a serious crash on a road in Nottinghamshire.

Nottinghamshire Police said officers were called to reports of a head-on crash involving a silver MG MG3 and a blue Nissan Qashqai in Bilborough Road, Strelley, on Thursday.

The force said a number of casualties were taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham to be treated for injuries it said were significant but not thought to be life-threatening.

On Friday, police said one of the injured people, a 32-year-old man, had been detained after he was released from hospital.

He was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and possession of cannabis, the force said.

Sgt Gina Northwood, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "A serious collision occurred and it has left a number of casualties in hospital with significant injuries."

She urged anyone with information about the crash, which happened at about 13:30 GMT, to come forward.
