A man is being sought by police over an alleged antisemitic attack in central Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said a man was attacked in Manchester's Exchange Square at 13:30 GMT on 3 February.

The Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA), which has supported the victim, said the man was "hit extremely forcefully" with what he believed was a bottle and the blow shattered his glasses and knocked him off balance.

The charity, which has offered a £5,000 reward for information leading to a conviction, said the attacker had shouted at the man and told him he was "responsible for the war in Gaza".

GMP said the attack had been recorded as a hate crime and has issued an image taken from CCTV of a man they would like to speak to.

The CAA said the victim was still "very traumatised by what happened".

In a joint statement, GMP and the Community Security Trust said hate crime "will not be tolerated and we will always endeavour to take action against those responsible for this type of offence to keep our communities safe".
