Burger restaurant blaze accidental - fire service

A fire that broke out in the roof of a burger restaurant is believed to have started accidentally, Dorset's fire service has said.

More than 60 firefighters tackled the blaze at the Dorset Burger Company building in King Street, Weymouth, on Saturday.

About 25 people had to be moved to safety as crews fought the fire shortly before 07:40 GMT.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) said the exact cause was still being investigated but "we believe the fire to have started accidentally".

The burger restaurant remains closed.

In a statement posted on Facebook, owners Emma Cogan and Ross Kay said: "The fire has left us without a roof and a lot of water damage throughout the building, although some parts remain untouched.

"We now have a steep learning curve ahead of us dealing with all the necessary parties to move forward."

The pair said they had been "overwhelmed with messages" and thanked people for "all the love and support".
