A man has been jailed for sexually abusing a young girl in a holiday caravan in North Yorkshire.

Gary Henshall, of Greenacres Drive in Batley, had "repeatedly" changed his pleas to the offences, which took place between 2020 and 2022 at a site in Selby, North Yorkshire Police said.

At York Crown Court in February, he admitted five charges including sexual assault.

On Friday, Henshall, 65, was sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Det Con Sophie Wilson, who led the investigation, said: "This has been a very difficult case, and I cannot praise the victim and her family enough for standing up for what is right and seeking justice against Henshall.

"Henshall also dragged out their suffering by repeatedly changing his plea.

"The judge's intervention ensured that justice has been served, and I hope the victim and her family can draw strength from the outcome at court."
