Bristol in pictures: Reasons to be cheerful
New births, new drinking rules, a new theatre for Bristol - it's all in our image round-up this week.
There was also a special birthday, an inspiring graduation story and a welcoming space for people wanting to escape the cold.
Here is our selection of images from across the city over the past few days.
Deer one: Staff at Bristol Zoo Project have been celebrating the birth of a new Philippine spotted deer fawn. The animals are extremely rare, with fewer than 700 of the species left in the wild.
Lager shanty please: Piratitude, one of Bristol's best-known pirate bands, were back at one of their favourite haunts, The Shakespeare, on Friday night. The city has many stories associated with folk who flew the skull and crossbones from their ships.
Cheers: Bristol City Women are one of four teams being allowed to let fans drink alcohol in the stands during games. Drinking in sight of the pitch is currently banned in the top five tiers of the English men's game, but the legislation does not cover the women's game.
A proud day: Gurvin Chopra, the first woman in her family to go to school, celebrated graduating with a master's in human rights from the University of Bristol. Her family had to flee Afghanistan in 2000 due to religious persecution by the Taliban.
All aboard: Bristol Community Ferryboats Ltd has announced it will try out a new night-time service along the city's waterways to coincide with the Bristol Light Festival, which runs from 31 January to 9 February. Special trips will be made from the city centre from 18:00 and 19:00 GMT on all days of the event, with an extra 20:00 GMT service on Fridays and Saturdays.
Practice makes perfect: Bristol Flyers, the team who represent the city in basketball, have been getting ready for their next match, against the Newcastle Eagles in Birmingham on Sunday. The team play their home games at the SGS College Arena in Filton.
Many happy returns: Margaret Grey, a resident at the St Monica Trust's Charterhouse Care Home in Keynsham, was the centre of celebrations for her 100th birthday. After studying at Bristol University, she started her teaching career at Colston's Girls' School before becoming deputy head teacher at St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School and then head teacher at Merrywood Girls School.
Take your seats: Over the weekend Bristol's dance team Impermanence launched their brand new 200-seat theatre at city venue The Mount Without, which is just off St Michael's Hill.
Come on in: Ebenezer Church in Horfield is one of many venues across Bristol that has been taking part in Warm Welcome Week, allowing people to access a cosy space, get fed and meet new people at this chilly time of year. Visitors come to the church from across Horfield, Lockleaze and Filton.
All for a good cause: Hotel staff from across Bristol helped raise nearly £1,000 for the Brain Tumour Support charity, which is based in Thornbury, at a Bristol Hoteliers Association (BHA) charity quiz night at the Delta by Marriott Hotel.
