Pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle during the early hours of Sunday, police have confirmed.

The crash happened at about 03:30 GMT on the A2 Whitebridge Road, in Onchan, near to the Manx Fun Farm.

The Isle of Man Constabulary said the pedestrian was taken to Noble's Hospital but was pronounced dead an hour later.

The driver of the vehicle was "assisting police with enquiries", the force confirmed.

A section of the road remained closed for about seven hours while investigations were carried out.

In a statement, police said: "Our thoughts and condolences are extended to the family and friends of the deceased.

"We would urge the public to refrain from public judgement or assumption to show respect to the family and friends at this difficult time."
