A man who assaulted a police officer during disorder in Bristol has been sentenced.

Terrell Morris, 32, from Horfield, pleaded guilty to affray and assault following the incident in August 2024.

He was given an 18-month suspended sentence and ordered to pay £50 compensation.

Senior investigating officer Det Ch Insp Tom Herbert said: "Morris acted in a threatening manner and then deplorably spat at a police officer who was simply doing their job."

Avon and Somerset Police explained Morris approached uniformed officers responding to the disorder on Saturday 3 August and asked if he could pass through the cordon to get to his car.

After they refused, Morris became increasingly hostile and threatening.

He was arrested and transported to custody where he spat at an officer, the force explained.

Morris was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court on Friday.

More than 40 convictions have now been secured following the disorder in the city in August 2024.
