Fresh appeal after car driven at pedestrians

West Midlands Police has issued a fresh appeal for witnesses more than three weeks after a car was driven at pedestrians in Birmingham city centre on New Year's Day, seriously injuring two people.

The force said it was thought two men were involved in a dispute in the middle of Bordesley Street when a light grey car was driven at them at about 23:25 GMT.

Two women, both aged 20, who were not involved in the dispute and were waiting for a taxi were hit, suffering what police described on Thursday as potentially life-changing injuries.

The car, which would have been visibly damaged, was then driven away "at speed", police said.

The force was reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses, it said, but would like to speak to anyone else who had seen the incident or had been in the area at the time, or had phone or dashcam footage.

"This was an appalling attack, seriously injuring two women," said Det Insp Toni Holl.

"Any detail, no matter how small, could help our inquiries as we try to get justice for those who were injured."
