Injured teenager was hurt in hit-and-run

Police say a teenager who was found injured on a street in Barrhead had been struck by a car in a hit-and-run incident.

The 15-year-old boy, who had been on an electric bike, is in a serious condition in hospital after being found on Aurs Drive at about 22:55 on Wednesday.

Police said that after extensive inquiries it had been established that he was hit by a car which failed to stop.

Investigations are continuing in an effort to trace the vehicle, which is believed to be a silver Vauxhall Astra.

The teenager is in a serious condition in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Sgt Ally Wright, of Police Scotland,said: "We have now confirmed that a car was involved in this incident and our inquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances.

"I am appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time and who may have seen the incident, the car or have information which could assist us to get in touch.

"I would also appeal to anyone with dashcam footage or private CCTV to contact us."
