A team of mountain rescuers came to the rescue of a dog that hurt its leg on a tree sump during a walk in the Peak District.

Police were initially called to help a couple with their injured saluki-collie cross at Hope Cross, Derbyshire, at 13:45 BST on Saturday.

Edale Mountain Rescue Team, which then attended, said Nova the dog had torn her rear right thigh exposing a large wound and was in considerable pain.

The team said her wound was cleaned and bandaged before she was carried 1000ft (310m) down a hill back to the campsite.
