Rail disruption extended due to bridge works

Some trains will be disrupted this weekend because work to replace an ageing bridge has overrun.
Rail services between Doncaster, Goole and Scunthorpe will be affected because Network Rail needs a further two days to finish the work, which started earlier this week.
An amended Northern timetable will continue on Saturday and services will be reduced between Sheffield and Doncaster.
On Sunday, it will operate rail replacement buses between Goole and Doncaster. TransPennine Express (TPE) will run buses over the weekend between Doncaster and Scunthorpe.
Normal service should resume on Monday.
Network Rail said the decking on the bridge at Marshgate junction in Doncaster was nearing the end of its life and would soon be unfit for allowing trains to pass.
The installation of beams requires some overhead powerlines to be switched off, said operations director Sam MacDougall.
"By taking the option to extend this week's package of work by a couple of days, we avoid having a full week's closure of this section of the railway.
"We're sorry to passengers whose journeys will be affected this weekend but this is the least disruptive way of approaching this urgent repair."
Passengers should check their journeys with National Rail Enquiries or with train operators before travelling.
