City centre fountain expected to reopen by summer
A popular fountain in Hull city centre is expected to reopen by the summer, the council leader said.
The fountain in Queen Victoria Square has not operated since August 2023 due to mechanical problems.
It was installed ahead of Hull's year as the UK's City of Culture in 2017 and quickly became a popular attraction for families and children.
The leader of Hull City Council, Mike Ross, was asked at a recent full council meeting when the fountain would be working again - he responded that it was likely to be summer.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Ross was asked by councillor Tracy Dearing, who represents the Newington and Gipsyville ward, if he could "give a commitment that the fountains in Queen Victoria Square will be working and open by spring this year".
In response, he said: "The council is working through solutions to reopen the fountains in anticipation of the summer period".
