Boy, 17, in court charged with Noah Smedley murder

A 17-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with murdering an 18-year-old who was stabbed to death in Derbyshire.

Noah Smedley died after being injured in Ilkeston on Saturday evening.

The boy charged with his murder has appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court, where he was remanded into secure accommodation.

He cannot be named for legal reasons because he is under 18.

Derbyshire Police said officers were called to Heanor Road by East Midlands Ambulance Service, due to reports of a man collapsed in the road.

They were called at 20:20 GMT on Saturday, and Mr Smedley died at the scene just before 21:00.

As well as being charged with murder, the 17-year-old has been charged with possession of a bladed article.

He is due to appear at Derby Crown Court on Friday.

Four other 17-year-old boys were also arrested on suspicion of murder.

One of these has been released on bail pending further inquiries, while the other three have been released with no further action.

Two 16-year-old girls were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

One has been released on bail pending further inquiries and the other has been released with no further action.

A 52-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been released on bail.
