Man arrested after vehicles damaged in town centre

A 22-year-old man has been arrested after several vehicles were damaged in a town centre.

Police closed High Street in Loughborough, Leicestershire, shortly before 09:00 GMT on Thursday after a man was reportedly refusing to leave a premises in Pinfold Gate.

It said he had climbed on to a wall and started damaging vehicles parked nearby.

A suspect was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Leicestershire Police said he remained in custody and inquiries were continuing.

No-one was injured during the incident.

A statement said: "It was reported that the man had climbed on to a wall in High Street and was causing damage to several vehicles parked close to the premises.

"As a precaution, a road closure was put in place High Street place to allow emergency services to respond."
