Space for 90 more SEND pupils could be created

A school for pupils with special educational needs (SEND) is set to expand to accommodate 90 more students.
Baginton Fields Academy in Whitley, Coventry, could gain eight extra classrooms under a new scheme put forward by the city council.
A new hydrotherapy pool and administration area could also be built at the Sedgemoor Road site.
It comes a year and a half after temporary classrooms got the go-ahead so the school would have room for more pupils. Plans lodged last week said Coventry lacks enough school spaces and the council must address this.
Baginton Fields was picked to expand because of a rise in the cohort locally and the space it had to expand, according to a design and access statement.
The academy which caters for 11-19 year olds currently has 117 pupils enrolled.
Documents with the scheme reveal 32 full time and five part-time jobs are set to be created along with 14 parking spaces at the site.
The new classroom building is due to be finished in time for the 2026/27 year, around the time when permission for temporary classrooms at the school will run out.
The city council's planning department will now review the plans before deciding whether to approve or reject them.
