Student drowned after jump from bridge - inquest

A university student drowned in the River Ouse in York after he was seen jumping from a bridge, an inquest opening has heard.
The body of 19-year-old Evan Geoffrey d'Andilly, from Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, was found by police divers on 5 March after he went into the water from the city's Ouse Bridge earlier that morning.
Assistant Coroner Gill Kane told the court in Northallerton that the provisional cause of the teenager's death was drowning.
Mr d'Andilly attended the University of York and was described by his family as "bright, funny, loving and kind".
They added: "Evan was, and always will be, our sunshine, our boy. There are no words to express our sadness."
Speaking to the York Press last month, Mr d'Andilly's family said the student was "a strong swimmer" and had remained above the water for 20 minutes, "waiting for rescue boats to arrive".
The inquest was adjourned to continue at a later date.
