Woman calls for action after garden car crash

A woman who had a car crash into her garden on Saturday has called for speed calming measures near her house.
Becky Guy, who lives on Whittlesey Road on the B1040 near Thorney, Peterborough, said over the past five years about 10 cars have crashed into her garden or her neighbour's.
Cambridgeshire Police said in the last 12 months it had responded to five crashes on Whittlesey Road between Thorney and Whittlesey, including two incidents where cars had crashed into a garden wall.
"This is one of many vehicle [crashes] we have experienced here in Stonebridge corner," Ms Guy said.
"I was in my kitchen [on Saturday]. I heard the speed, heard the screeching and then you are waiting for the bang. And [the crash] happened," Ms Guy said.
"The only thing that stopped the car from crashing into the house further is the ivy that I have left to grow. It acted as a buffer," she added.
Cambridgeshire Police said no-one was injured in the incident on Saturday, when a car went through a garden wall at about 17:30 BST.
The vehicle was recovered from the hedgerow by 19:00, it added.

Ms Guy said the part of Whittlesey Road that she lives on has a national speed limit of 60mph, but no-one "should be driving at that speed on this road".
"This will be probably the 10th car between me and my neighbour's garden.
"We have raised it with the parish council multiple times.
"They put these massive chevron signs about a year ago and resurfaced the road, but it doesn't do anything about the speed.
"On most days we struggle to get out of our driveway - it's not the volume of cars but the speed at which the vehicles are driving which is causing the issue.
"We have no speed cameras or average speed cameras here on this road, which would affect how people drive on it."
"Someone needs to get behind [implementing speed measures] before someone dies. It needs to be a proactive action, not reactive action."
Cambridgeshire County Council said the road fell under the authority of Peterborough City Council.
In a statement, the city council said: "We have undertaken safety measures in this area recently, including resurfacing the road and enhancing chevrons to make them more noticeable to motorists.
"We will continue to review these measures going forwards."
Thorney Parish Council has also been contacted for comment.
