Murder inquiry launched into death of woman in her 30s

A murder investigation has been launched into the death of a woman in County Cork, gardaí (Irish police) have said.

The woman's body were discovered at a residential property on Bridewell Lane in Mallow on Friday.

She has been named locally as 31-year-old Paula Canty, originally from Kinsale, and it is understood she had been stabbed in the chest, according to Irish broadcaster RTÉ.

The results of post-mortem examination conducted by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster, have been released to the investigating team.

The body of the woman was found in her apartment at the Belfry on Bridewell Lane in Mallow at around midday on Friday after gardaí had received a call alerting them to an incident.

The apartment remains sealed off after garda technical experts carried out a detailed examination over the past two days.

An incident room has been set up at Mallow Garda Station and a senior officer has been appointed to lead the investigation.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam or mobile footage to contact them.
