Overnight flood warning as River Eden rises

Residents in west Kent have been urged to take action as flooding is expected on Sunday evening and overnight.

The Environment Agency (EA) said the areas most at risk include properties in the area of Haxted Mill and Haxted Road near Edenbridge, as water levels in River Eden and its tributary Eden Brook are rising.

Flooding was expected from 18:00 GMT on Sunday and will continue overnight, with further rain expected until midday on Monday.

The warning advised property flooding is not expected in the town of Edenbridge itself.

EA said at 17:00 on Sunday: "The River Eden level at Edenbridge was 3.23m (10.6ft). Property flooding is possible when it goes above 3.38m (11ft)."

It advised people in the area to start acting on their flood plan if they have one.

The advice comes as the Met Office issued a yellow warning for rain in Kent on Sunday.

Southeastern trains from Tunbridge Wells to Hastings were briefly halted on Sunday morning due to flooding at Frant Station.
