Inquiry under way after man's body found in canal

Police were called to Tinsley Canal at 19:15 BST on Tuesday

The body of a 39-year-old man has been recovered from a canal in Sheffield, South Yorkshire Police said.

Officers were called to reports of a body in the water in the Tinsley Canal near Staniforth Road, Darnall, at 19:15 BST on Tuesday.

The force said officers investigating the man's death were treating it as unexplained.

A police spokesperson said the incident had been referred to force's Professional Standards department as the man had visited a police inquiry desk earlier that day.

Anyone with information about the incident has been asked to contact police.
