A 17-year-old boy is believed to have been stabbed in the leg during an altercation with a group of men in Scunthorpe on Saturday, Humberside Police said.

Officers said they were called to reports of a serious assault at 18:00 GMT on Healey Road and said they believed the group of men involved in the fight knew each other.

The force said the boy was found in St Lawrence Place and was "thought to have sustained stab wounds to his leg" that were not life threatening.

Officers investigating the assault said a cordon had been put in place and asked anyone who witnessed the incident to contact police.

Det Insp Steve Antrobus said: "I understand an incident of this nature will be concerning for the local community.

"However, I want to offer my reassurance that we believe this to be an incident between individuals known to each other."

The force said there would be an increased police presence in the area while they continued with their investigations.
