Mohammed Islam Ahmad Khan took the same exam three times, but failed when he took it without cheating, the panel found

A nurse found to have cheated in two exams by having banned notes with him has been struck off.

Mohammed Islam Ahmad Khan was studying for an MSc in neonatal pharmacology at Southampton University when he was twice caught with the illicit material, eight months apart, in 2021.

In the second case, he said his young daughter had pasted notes in a textbook he had been allowed to have in the exams but a panel found that explanation was implausible.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) found Mr Khan's actions were irreconcilable with him working as a nurse again.

Its panel heard Mr Khan was found with the notes during exams in April 2021 and again in December 2021, but failed another he took fairly between the two.

It was told he had challenging personal circumstances at the time, but had enjoyed a 21-year career in nursing and had presented good references.

But the panel said he had "simply denied" his cheating was dishonest and "instead invented incredible explanations" to justify it.

It concluded that it had to send a message that similar conduct would be unacceptable to others in the profession and barred him from working as a nurse again.
