A 70-year-old man has died after the mobility scooter he was riding collided with a military truck, police have said.

The crash happened at about 12.50 BST on Wednesday on the A6136 Catterick Road near the junction with Colburn Lane, close to Catterick Garrison.

The man was airlifted to hospital but died during the journey, according to North Yorkshire Police.

The driver and the passenger in the truck, both men, have been assisting the force with their inquiries, a spokesperson said.
