Arrests after police raids on suspected brothels

Two arrests have been made after police raided a number of suspected brothels in Nottingham.
Police said the operation was in connection with the suspected exploitation of women who might have been forced to work as sex workers.
Officers raided addresses in Mansfield Road, Sherwood, and Derby Road on Monday at about 06:00 BST and another property later on in Plantin Road, Carrington, where a 58-year-old man and 59-year-old woman were arrested.
Inquiries then led officers to a raid on a third suspected brothel in Queens Road, Beeston.
The force said cash, documents and high-value items were recovered in the raids, as well as an extendable baton from the address in Derby Road.
The 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of managing or assisting to manage a brothel and possession of criminal property.
The 59-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of criminal property and causing or inciting prostitution for gain.
Sgt Karl Browne, from Nottinghamshire Police, said inquiries were ongoing.
"We are committed to tackling the harm and exploitation associated with sex work and are always prepared to take positive action as we have here," he said.
"As a force we take a victim-first approach with this issue, which is why we also work closely with charities and support groups to ensure women identified as being involved in prostitution can access the network of support available to them."
