The bomb squad was called out after an unexploded device was found by a boat dredging the water of the Firth of Forth.

The boat was evacuated as a precaution after returning to Western Harbour in the Newhaven area of Edinburgh at about 10:30 on Friday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "HM Coastguard and EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) were contacted.

"An exclusion zone has been put in place to allow for a controlled explosion."

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said controlled explosion was carried out at about 16:00 on Saturday.

They added: "The item was safely deposited by the EOD unit on the seabed about two nautical miles from land and successfully detonated on 28 December.

"South Queensferry and Fisherrow Coastguard Rescue Teams and Police Scotland assisted with the response."
