Watch as firefighters tackle hillside blaze

Footage shows more than 30 firefighters tackling a wildfire on Garth Mountain, north of Cardiff.

The fire, which continued to burn until 22:45 BST on Monday, was first reported at 15:00 and by 16:30 had grown to cover around 50 hectares.

Four crews were at the scene, with the combined control room for South Wales, and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service saying they had been swamped with calls reporting both the fire on Garth Mountain, and a separate wildfire on Sugarloaf Mountain, north west of Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.

There were around 117 calls about the fire on The Garth and 48 for the fire on Sugarloaf, which covered around four hectares and ended at around 21:15.

A spokesperson said firefighters would be visiting the sites at first light on Tuesday to check on it.

Fire crews were also called to a wild fire in north Wales late on Monday, involving gorse and bracken, covered around 3,000 square metres in Llanfairfechan, Conwy county.

Three pumps and a wildfire unit were called there.

The incidents follow a series of wildfires across Wales in recent weeks, as dry and settled weather continues.
