'It's been an incredible chapter of my life'

Former first minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced that she is to step down as an MSP.

She told BBC Scotland News the time was right for her to step down and she was looking forward to the future.

The Glasgow Southside MSP had written to constituents saying that she would not seek re-election for the 2026 elections to the Scottish Parliament.

The former leader of the SNP is one of the original MSPs elected in 1999.
