A police officer has pleaded guilty to a charge of non-fatal strangulation.

Weymouth Magistrates Court heard PC Tyler McWalter, 30, of Dorset Police put a man into a "chokehold" during an altercation outside the Kika Beach bar on The Esplanade in the town.

The victim suffered haemorrhaging to his left eye and a sore neck and throat in the assault on 14 September 2024. McWalter was off duty at the time.

Dorset Police said he had been on "restricted duties" since then. He was released on bail before sentencing on 3 July.
