Jersey Water has put forward a planning application to allow islanders to fill up their water bottles within Howard Davis Park

A new water refill station could be installed in a Jersey park as part of ongoing plans by Jersey Water to reduce single use plastics.

The utilities company has put forward a planning application to allow islanders to fill up their water bottles within Howard Davis Park, next to Don Road.

The service said the purpose of the filling station was "to provide free, safe, public access to drinking water."

Plans have been put in, but must be approved by the government's planning department before progressing further.

'Better facilities'

Jersey Water said the station would be contactless and sampled for water quality on a regular basis.

The plan is part of a wider network of refill stations that have already been installed in St John's Village, St Helier and Jersey Airport.

In its application, Jersey Water said Howard Davis Park was a popular location and a venue for a number of events organised by local groups.

It said: "These events have highlighted to Jersey Water a need for better facilities within the park green area itself.

"The refill station will be sited in a location that doesn't cause any change to the use of the park, in terms of causing obstruction or changing how the park is enjoyed."
