Kilometre-wide moor fire is extinguished

A large fire with a front of more than 1km (0.62 miles) on Cornish moorland has been extinguished by firefighters.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said it received reports of the incident on Rosenannon Downs near St Columb just after 19:30 GMT on Thursday with seven engines and four Land Rovers dispatched to the scene.
While the blaze was ongoing, a fire service spokesperson said: "The fire has a front of over 1,000m and is being managed by the fire service. The fire is being allowed to burn to natural breaks."
In an update posted at 23:04 GMT, the spokesperson said: "The fire has now been extinguished and all appliances are returning to home stations."

Flames from the fire had been spotted for miles around with people posting about the incident on social media in surrounding areas including Newquay, St Columb and Wadebridge.
