City set to celebrate historic football win

Newcastle United will celebrate their Carabao Cup victory with an open-top bus parade

Tens of thousands of Newcastle United fans are expected to line the city's streets later to celebrate the club's historic Carabao Cup win.

The Magpies' secured their first silverware since the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969, and the club's first domestic trophy for 70 years, by beating Liverpool at Wembley two weeks ago.

An open-top bus parade will start at St James' Park at approximately 16:30, head through Newcastle city centre and end at Town Moor.

Meanwhile, a ticketed celebration at Town Moor will feature live music, interviews and a screening of the full cup final.

What's the route?

The parade convoy will depart from St. James' Park at approximately 16:30 GMT before heading east along Gallowgate.

It will then turn left on to Percy Street, travel past Haymarket and on to the Great North Road (B1318) before arriving at the event site at approximately 17:00 GMT.

Is the parade free to attend?

Yes, the parade along the streets of Newcastle is free to attend.

The Town Moor celebration was a ticketed event. Supporters were previously asked to register their interest and should have been issued a ticket via email.

Is the parade on TV?

The parade will be live-streamed on the BBC News website and BBC iPlayer.

BBC Radio Newcastle is replaying its commentary of the League Cup final from 14:00 GMT on its FM frequencies only.

That will be followed by live coverage of the trophy parade from 16:30 GMT on BBC Sounds.

The parade will also be streamed live on large screens for those at the Town Moor celebration.

Can you bring food and drinks?

Supporters will be able to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks to the ticketed event at Town Moor.

It is a family event with no alcohol allowed and food, drink and retail vendors at Town Moor will accept card and contactless payments only.

Daysack-sized bags (roughly A4) will be allowed on site but will be subject to security checks.

The following items are banned from the Town Moor celebration:

  • Chairs/camping equipment
  • Flags
  • Pyrotechnics/flares
  • Drones
  • Pets

How to get there and where to park

The event is expected to have a "significant impact" on the region's transport network, with all public transport is expected to be very busy all day, the club said.

People have been told to expect queues.

Event attendees have been encouraged to walk to and from the event site where possible.
