Woman dies in multiple vehicle M6 crash

A woman has died in a crash on the M6 motorway in Cheshire.
The incident happened at about 18:30 GMT on Monday near junction 16 southbound, and involved a red Hyundai, a silver BMW and a black Mercedes.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 67-year-old woman from Liverpool, died, according to police. They added the driver of the BMW, a 51-year-old man from Staffordshire, suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 41-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent, was not injured, officers said.
The motorway was closed for seven hours, and reopened at about 02:00 GMT on Tuesday.
Enquiries were ongoing and officers have appealed for witnesses with information or video footage to come forward.
"The M6 is one of the main routes that runs through Cheshire and this incident would have occurred at a busy at the time of day, so we are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward," said Det Insp Steve Griffiths.
