Police warn new homes would 'stretch resources'

Police have warned a proposed development of 100 homes would put "additional stress" on "stretched existing resources".

Developers want to build the properties – which they said would be "well-designed and sustainable" on land off Hargham Road in Attleborough, Norfolk.

But in a letter to Breckland District Council, Norfolk Police said the development – and others in the area – would create extra demand for their services.

Councillors are being advised to approve the scheme, subject to conditions including the creation of new habitats for skylarks in the area.

Construction firm Lovell said 96 of the homes would be two, three or four bedroom houses – with four flats also on the 6.75 hectare (16.68 acre) site.

In its submission to the council, it said its plans would provide "housing to meet the need of the local area".

While it did not object to the plans, Norfolk Police said that it, alongside other proposals for the area, "will place additional strain on existing resources".

In a letter, it called for extra funding to be linked to similar future developments.

Breckland's planning committee is expected to approve the plans when it meets on 1 April.
