Railway bridge roadworks to begin

Work on a busy town-centre road which runs under a railway line is due to begin in Shrewsbury.
It will mean a series of overnight closures and daytime traffic restrictions on Cross Street throughout April.
The work will include widening the existing footpath and the construction of a new one under the bridge.
It is part of a wider programme of improvements to the railway station gyratory area.
The first phase of the work will see Cross Street closed from 20:00 until 06:00 between Tuesday and the morning of 4 April.
There will be then be night closures from Sundays to Thursdays during the same hours until the end of the month.
No work will take place on Fridays or weekends.
Shropshire Council said, during the first four nights, the work to cut up the road surface was likely to be noisy, but the noise would stop at 23:00 each evening.
During the closures, Chester Street will become two-way.
Route diversions
The council said, when Cross Street opens on the morning of 2 April, a single lane will be in place under the bridge, but the right turn on to Castle Foregate will not be available.
It said traffic from Ellesmere Road wishing to access the railway station, town centre or Smithfield Road should instead use Chester Street.
Traffic from Smithfield Road or Ellesmere Road travelling towards Heathgates or Howard Street will be able to turn left or travel straight ahead on leaving the tunnel.
The existing railway station exit will become its entrance.
