PD Boris is heading for retirement after five years of service to Kent Police

A police dog has retired after five years helping to collar criminals in Kent.

PD Boris, a German Shepherd, has moved to his new home after helping detain three wanted suspects in his last 10 days of service.

One offender injured Boris during a recent arrest but the dog held on to the suspect until a human officer arrived to make the arrest, according to Kent Police.

PC Nathan Southern, Boris's handler for the last two years, said the dog had been an "exceptional public servant".

The former police dog, which was known for its athleticism and sense of smell, once helped find a victim's mobile phone while searching for the people suspected of stealing his delivery van in Medway.

Other career highlights included chasing and restraining a man accused of indecently exposing himself to two women in Sheerness, and tracking a violent suspected robber and kidnapper who was hiding in undergrowth in Sittingbourne.

"Criminals should not, however, be encouraged by his absence from the streets as his younger colleagues will be enthusiastically taking on the challenge of protecting the people of Kent," said Mr Southern.

Boris will "retire to a loving home where he can reminisce on his many successes", he added.
