Views are now being sought to help inform what the new neighbourhood would look like

A council is seeking views on the design of a new "urban village" that is part of a project to regenerate car parks and scrubland.

Plans to transform some of Merton Meadow is part of Herefordshire Council's £2m wetland scheme to address flooding and make way for the 400 new homes proposal.

Councillor Biggs said the project would create an "exciting new environmentally sustainable neighbourhood" but it would only be made possible with the public's views.

Consultation will run online on the council website from 18 July until 31 August, while engagement sessions will be held on 17 July at Maylord Orchards centre.

Mr Biggs said: "There is still a long way to go before any firm ideas for the regeneration of the area are developed.

"This is an excellent opportunity to develop the low cost and affordable housing needed for local people and key worker accommodation to support our public services.

"With improved connectivity with the city centre and public open spaces the area is ideal for multi-generational living."

The car park next to Hereford FC's Edgar Street ground, is owned by the council and was considered for affordable housing in 2013. Plans had received criticism due to fears of flooding.

The proposed wetland scheme is said to alleviate flooding while creating habitats for wildlife and new public spaces.

"I would encourage everyone, whether a local resident or visitor to Hereford, to share their thoughts and views on what this should look like," he added.
