A man has died after being stabbed in Walsall.

The 22-year-old was injured on Bloxwich Road at about 17:15 GMT on Monday and taken to hospital where he died just before midnight, West Midlands Police said.

A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.

The force said it was concerned the incident might lead to violent disorder and officers would therefore make use of special powers allowing them to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds.

The Section 60 powers were in force across Walsall overnight and due to expire at 08:00 GMT on Wednesday.

The force said it would also have officers patrolling in the area to offer reassurance to the community.

Det Insp Joe Davenport, who is leading the investigation, appealed for anyone with information to contact police.

"We're at a very early stage of the investigation and are working hard to understand what has happened and why," he said.

"I'd urge anyone with information, CCTV, dashcam, doorbell or other footage from the area at the time to get in touch with us as soon as possible."
