A man has died following a fire at a property in Birmingham.

West Midlands Police said officers were called to Pit Leasow Close, Stirchley, just before 03:40 GMT on Saturday. The man died at the scene, the force said.

West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) posted on X at about 05:00 that six of its appliances and other emergency services were "dealing with a significant fire".

The police force added it was working with the fire service to establish the cause of the blaze.

Earlier, WMFS warned people to avoid the area while crews tackled the fire.
