A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another man was found dead from suspected stab wounds inside a home, police have said.

South Yorkshire Police said they were called to a home on Barlow Drive, Sheffield, at about 03:00 GMT on Sunday, where the man was declared dead, despite the efforts of emergency services to revive him.

A 44-year-old man has been arrested and remains in custody, the force added.

Det Ch Insp Rebecca Hodgman said: "We realise this will come as a shock to the local community, and I would like to reassure them that we have a team of detectives working at pace to piece together the circumstances of what happened."

She added: "The local Neighbourhood Policing Team will be conducting additional patrols around the area over the coming days.

"They are there to help, so I encourage you to speak to them if you have any concerns."

Crime scenes remained in place on Barlow Drive and on Rivelin Valley Road around the area of Roscoe Plantation Allotments "while officers carry out their inquiries", a police spokesperson said.

Det Ch Insp Hodgman added: "I want to thank the local community for their co-operation while we remain at the scene."

She said the family of the deceased had been informed and were being supported by specialist officers.
