Who is Cambridgeshire and Peterborough mayoral candidate Ryan Coogan?

Experience

Ryan Coogan is the candidate for Reform UK. He has lived in Cambridgeshire for more than 35 years. He describes himself as an active campaigner for social justice, freedom advocate, complex dispute manager and negotiator, environmentalist, businessman and philanthropist.

Transport policies

Coogan says he wants to see a new body "Transport for Greater Cambridgeshire" set up to oversee and improve transport.

He would like to see Mill Road bridge in Cambridge re-opened to all motor users and see upgrades to the A10, A1, A14, A11, M11 and A47. In addition, he says he wants to start the process of implementing the Great East Road.

Net Zero opposition

Coogan claims that Net Zero is "crippling" Cambridgeshire's economy. He says he would like to see investment in nuclear and hydrogen energy, which he describes as a practical, long-term energy strategy.

He says he will oppose solar and wind farms on "prime agricultural land".

Low tax

He pledges to set up an "efficiency team" to slash "unnecessary spending". He claims this will mean taxes can be kept low.

Business growth

He would like to create a business start-up and growth fund, which would offer support for small businesses​.

In addition he would support a Cambridgeshire Business Network which would offer a single platform to unite and support local enterprises.

A high-tech innovation cluster and an AI and big data hub are also among his priorities.
