Boats wrecked after fire tore through boatyard

Plumes of smoke could be seen over the Portsmouth skyline as the fire broke out on Tuesday

The charred remains of five boats have been revealed after a fire spread through a boatyard.

Plumes of smoke were visible across Portsmouth after the blaze, involving the boats and a storage container, broke out in Tipner Lane on Tuesday at about 16:00 BST.

Crews returned to the yard on Wednesday morning, with several hotspots dampened down ahead of an inspection to establish the cause.

With smoke billowing from the yard, nearby residents were advised to close doors and windows through Tuesday afternoon and evening.
