Trade skills workshops for Ukrainian kids

A construction worker has set up free workshops for Ukrainian children to help them gain essential skills so they can rebuild their homeland.
Ben Hurst from Hailsham, East Sussex, who has been working in the construction industry for 22 years, says it is "vital" for young people to be equipped with "essential skills" including carpentry, plumbing and electrical wiring.
The 40 year old said this idea came to him when he saw Donald Trump attempting to push for an ending in the Russia and Ukraine conflict.
He said: " All Trump talked about was repayments from the Ukrainian government. Then I thought what was going to happen to the children and their futures in a country devastated by conflict?"
Children 'pay the price'
He said: "Sadly for some kids, their role models like their parents or other family members have died. They don't have any one to teach them practical skills."
Mr Hurst, who runs a construction company called The Orange Toolbox in Uckfield, says his new workshop also welcomes special educational needs (SEN) children.
He says teaching SEN children trade skills "encourages their creativity".
"While academic education is important, learning trade skills is also important because you can use them at any point in your life."
Mr Hurst says the workshops take place at his company and are for children from the ages of two to 18.
"In all conflicts children always end up paying the price," he added.
"They are the future of their country and I think it is vital we empower them with essential skills and knowledge so they can help rebuild Ukraine."
