A 16-year-old girl has died in hospital following a road crash in the Cotswolds.

Emergency services were called to an unclassified road near the village of Elkstone, Gloucestershire, at about 02:20 GMT on 17 February, following a report that a white Volkswagen Polo had left the road and hit a tree.

The teenager, who had been a passenger in the car, was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, but died of her injuries just over a week later on 25 February.

A 17-year-old boy from Stroud was arrested following the incident and has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries, Gloucestershire Police said.

A 17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, who were also in the vehicle, have been discharged from hospital after being treated for serious injuries.

Investigating officers have appealed for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch.
